From: "Shirley Holloway" Date: Tue, 07 Sep 1999 20:28:38 -0500 I feel pretty good about our start this year. i am using the 4 Blocks = format and so far we have seen some amazing things, but i need a reality check. How much editing do you expect from the young ones? i have received = several final drafts and they still have a ton of mistakes. i find that many of = the children don't want to keep rewriting. How much do you do? Today I conferenced with one of my brightest students. Can you believe he wrote about the Revolutionary War! . He had a number of spelling = mistakes but I was amazed because he started out with Bang! Bang! Bang! He had words like resume .......spelled rezoomed. I will share this piece when = he finishes it. Every year we do DOL sentences and I do model editing, ect. but usually = I become the editor. I must tell you that the first grade teachers don't do much writing until after Christmas. Could this be the problem? How long should the average student work to get one published piece? They = are all motivated to publish but it seems to take forever and thousands of conferences.
