I taught sixth grade then. I had cut up the 1000 words the kids = are supposed to know. I had enlarged and copied them six times to make sets = of these words. The kids were in groups of four or five. Sometimes they looked for nouns, other times verbs, prepositions. Later , they created words. If you wanted to, these words could be put in a jar along with = words the kids learn, interesting words, words in books they read, etc. Any = time there is extra time, this is a possible activity as well as regular = lesson. What do you think? What's winter without a snow day (at least in the = East) Now to get on with business. :-) Where do you get a list of 1000 = words a child should know by fifth grade? I am so excited to have found = Donovan's word Jar. Just had to look in the 2-3 scholastic version instead of the = 4-5. Parenthetically, you can use those magnet poetry kits for sorting into = parts of speech, too. I use them for attendance graphing, giving each = child a word to put in the proper category on a graph. Any other uses for these = super kits? You can't answer until I hear the 1000 words though.! :=3D) Ann/Md, 5th ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End of 6Traits Digest -- To unsubscribe, send any message at all to: 6Traits-off@.
