It disturbs me when teachers become discouraged when testing is emphasized =
in
public education. I am in my 42nd year...bouncing back and forth between
public and private sectors...and I feel as Teri does...finally ...and for =
the
first time, I am ready to give it up as a lost cause. However, I recognize =

the culprit as administrative.

I spent a decade with my own school for underachievers, searching for
educational truths with applied research. My search was directed both as
parent and classroom teacher. I found answers by developing a skill-based
curriculum that eventually produced accelerated first-graders and =
graduated
seniors with 12th grade reading levels and GED completion. We were very
small, but all students were tested with California Achievement Tests and
curriculum was planned around individual student needs. Teacher and =
student
success was measured by CAT advancement from one level to another. There =
were
few failures to achieve with standardized testing.

After a second failed attempt to share these accomplishments with public
education, I am returning to private sector security where competition is
valid and ability is its own credential. There are too many political =
games
played in the public arena. Despite my successes in teacher training and
administrative workshops, I recognize that the "dumping" on classroom
teachers is driving many talented teachers from the classroom . What a
decided loss for generations of students...

Jennifer, that was a great idea!!

I have a similar thing by using their hand. They make an "I Love You" =
sign
with their hand. Touching their pointer finger is.... did I capitalize =
the
beginning of my sentence? Touching their pinkie finger is.... did I put
punctuation at the then end of my sentence? Sliding their finger down =
the
pointer and thumb finger is.... did I space between my words? The other =

two fingers I use for can I add or change a word for a better one? And/OR =

Can I choose one sentence to change.... make it longer or into two shorter =

sentences?

Wendy
