Martin" Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 06:00:48 -0800 Dear Susan, Thanks so much for sharing the poetry sites on Langston Hughes. He is an author I have long loved, and on Thursday when I took my class to the library I noticed one of his books had only been checked out 4 times in the last 8 years. I checked it out, then instead of giving my students the SSR time they usually get after going to the library I leafed through the book and read some of his poems. I then put his book up for classroom check out, and there's a waiting list! I am so pleased with my student's response to poetry this year! The sites will be posted for our next visit to the computer lab. Thanks again!!! This is simple, however, so it goes. My kids liked it. We used Kid Pix to create a visual presentation of the rock cycle. It = was a "test" and the kids had fun as well. I gave them a spec sheet on the = overhead to follow. We make blank books into class books using the illustrative abilities = of kid pix. We made, for example, a dictionary of "Neologisms." We had had a = spelling list of words made from Greek roots (e.g., sub-, meter- etc.) = and we created our own new words using a big list of Greek roots. We did the correct dictionary format including a sample sentence, and we did an illustration using the graphics of kid pix. Great program, particularly as it gets revised and updated. There = are many more uses than the "blow it up" and erase a picture aspects. Have fun, Ann ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End of 6Traits Digest -- To unsubscribe, send any message at all to: 6Traits-off@.
